This year’s meeting of the Society for Light Treatment and Biological Rhythms (SLTBR) took place from June 20 to 22 in Prague, Czech Republic. The diverse scientific program consisted of five symposia, a presentation round for young researchers, three discussion rounds, annual reviews, poster sessions and a data blitz.
Prof. Dr. Christian Cajochen, Dr. med. Dr. sc. med. Corrado Garbazza, Prof. Dr. Manuel Spitschan, Dr. Anna Biller, PhD student Niloufar Tabandeh and Prof. Dr. Urs Albrecht (Advisory Board) also took part as representatives of the iHCDP.
After the welcome speech by SLTBR President Christian Cajochen, Corrado Garbazza, SLTBR Vice-President and chair of the first symposium, gave an introduction on ‘Circadian Health’. He was followed by Manuel Spitschan’s presentation on the measurement, characterization and description of light in clinical and other studies. He also chaired the first round of presentations. His PhD student Niloufar Tabandeh then gave a presentation on the classification of natural indoor and outdoor scenes from radiometric, photometric, and colorimetric features. Within the same session, Urs Albrecht held a presentation on the activity of cyclin-dependent kinase 5 (Cdk5), which is modulated by light and controls rapid phase shifts of the circadian clock. Dr. Anna Biller presented the first results of her 12-month cohort study Ecology of Human Sleep (EcoSleep), investigating determinants of sleep under real-life conditions.
