This years’ Daylight Academy (DLA) Conference took place far up north in Trondheim, Norway from 30-31 May.
The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) acted as a co-host, so two parallel sessions were held at the university’s Light and Colour Centre.
iHCDP director Prof. Dr. Christian Cajochen as well as Prof. Dr. Manuel Spitschan who is the speaker of the DLA Steering Committee, represented the iHCDP. They also met Dr. Lukas von Orelli and Dr. Marion Bétizeau, director and scientific research associate of the Velux foundation, which is a funding sponsor of the iHCDP and initiator of the Daylight Academy.
The program was inspired by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations and put a special focus on the following three goals and how the interdisciplinary research on daylight can be used to tackle them:
- good health and well-being (SGD 3)
- affordable and clean energy (SGD 7)
- sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11)
The two days were filled with a diverse mixture of keynote talks, speed networking events, a sneak preview of the DLA’s upcoming documentary films, poster flash talks and sessions under different topics that participants could choose from, amongst others, a northern twilight measuring session.
A guided tour through the historic city center of Trondheim and a light show in the city’s Nidaros Cathedral literally turned the evening into a highlight.
